Renewal

The New Testament says that Jesus will return to the Earth from heaven in glory to finally and fully establish the Kingdom of God. The dead will be raised to life, and our mortal bodies will become immortal. Jesus will bring healing and peace to the whole of creation, and finally put an end to evil.

In the final book of the Bible, Revelation, the Apostle John writes:

Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband.

And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, ‘Look! God’s dwelling-place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.’

He who was seated on the throne said, ‘I am making everything new!’ Then he said, ‘Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.’(Revelation 21:1-5)

The new order of things is the Kingdom of God.

We don’t know when this will happen or exactly how, but this is the hope Christians have been given by Jesus.

The Bible tells us that anyone who definitively rejects God and turns their back on his love will not share in God’s new creation. Jesus calls their condition, ‘the outer darkness’. It is a darkness of their own choosing.

However, God’s new creation is not for an elite few.  God wants everyone to enjoy the light of his love forever, and through Jesus this has been made possible.

God our Saviour… wants all people to be saved and come to a knowledge of the truth. (1 Timothy 2:3-4)
