The New Testament says that Jesus will return to the Earth from heaven in glory to finally and fully establish the Kingdom of God. The dead will be raised to life, and our mortal bodies will become immortal. Jesus will bring healing and peace to creation, and finally put an end to evil.
He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away. (Revelation 21:4)
The new order of things is the Kingdom of God.
We don’t know when this will happen or exactly how, but this is the hope Christians have been given by Jesus, who was himself raised from the dead.
The Bible tells us that anyone who definitively rejects God and turns their back on his love will not share in God’s new creation. Jesus calls their condition, ‘the outer darkness’. It is a darkness of their own choosing.
However, God’s new creation is not for an elite few. God wants everyone to enjoy the light of his love forever, and through Jesus this has been made possible.
God our Saviour… wants all people to be saved and come to a knowledge of the truth. (1 Timothy 2:3-4)
